Understanding TMJ & TMD

Your temporomandibular joints (TMJ) connect your lower jaw to your skull and are used constantly for speaking, chewing, swallowing, and yawning. Strain or irritation in these joints or muscles can cause temporomandibular disorder (TMD).

TMD can cause a wide range of symptoms, including jaw pain, headaches, facial tension, neck pain, ear discomfort, clicking or popping in the jaw, and difficulty opening or closing the mouth comfortably. Because these symptoms can develop gradually, many patients may not realize their discomfort is related to the jaw joint.

At Great Hill Dental Partners, our team works closely with patients to evaluate jaw function and create treatment plans focused on improving comfort, movement, and quality of life.
